Storage & plans
How much free storage do I get with VirtualDrive?
- VirtualDrive gives you 20 GB free, forever — no credit card, no trial timer. Paid plans add more space: Lite (200 GB, $2.99/mo), Pro (2 TB, $9.99/mo), Pro Max (5 TB, $19.99/mo). Every plan, free included, gets the full feature set — encryption, sharing, mobile apps, audit logs. See the full breakdown on the pricing page.
How does VirtualDrive compare to Dropbox, Google Drive, or iCloud?
- VirtualDrive offers significantly cheaper paid storage tiers (200 GB at $2.99 vs Google One's $2.99 and Dropbox's $11.99 for 2 TB) while including encryption and audit logs at every level. The free tier is also larger than Dropbox's (2 GB) and Google's (15 GB shared across all Google services). We do not scan files for advertising, we do not train AI on user content, and we run on US-based SOC 2 Type II infrastructure.
Is there a file size limit?
- Yes, per plan. Free accounts can upload single files up to 1 GB. Lite goes to 5 GB, Pro to 25 GB, and Pro Max to 50 GB per file. These caps are configurable by an admin in the admin console. There are no per-day upload caps on the standard tiers beyond the daily traffic limits described in your plan.
What counts toward my storage quota?
- Every file you upload counts toward your quota — both your personal drive and shared workspace content you own. Files in Trash continue to count until they are permanently deleted (automatic after 30 days, or you can empty it manually). Files shared with you by other users count toward their quota, not yours.
Is there a free trial of the paid plans?
- No trial is needed because the Free plan never expires. You get 20 GB and the full feature set forever. Upgrade only if you outgrow the 20 GB cap. Paid plans are month-to-month — cancel at any time from your account settings, and you keep access until the end of the billing period.
Security & privacy
Is VirtualDrive secure?
- Yes. Every file is encrypted with AES-256 at rest and protected in transit by TLS 1.2 or higher. The underlying database uses Row Level Security so unauthorized access is rejected at the database engine layer, not just the application. Every admin action is recorded with IP and timestamp in an immutable audit log. Full details on the security page.
Can VirtualDrive staff read my files?
- No. Files are encrypted at rest and access is controlled entirely by your account credentials. Staff have no operational reason to read user content and our access policies prohibit it. The only automated content scanning we perform is malware and CSAM detection on publicly shared links, as required by 18 U.S.C. §2258A.
Will my files be used to train AI?
- No. The Privacy Policy explicitly forbids using customer files for AI training, model fine-tuning, recommendation engines, or sale to third parties. We process your files only to deliver the service you signed up for: storage, retrieval, sharing, and the search you initiate.
Is VirtualDrive HIPAA compliant?
- VirtualDrive is not currently offered as a HIPAA-compliant service. The infrastructure (encryption, audit logs, access controls) meets most of HIPAA's technical safeguards, but we do not sign Business Associate Agreements at this time. If HIPAA compliance is a hard requirement for your team, please contact support@virtualdrive.us to discuss enterprise options.
Is VirtualDrive GDPR and CCPA compliant?
- Yes. We honor the data subject rights granted by GDPR (EU/UK) and CCPA (California) including access, correction, deletion, portability, and opt-out of sale (we do not sell data). To exercise these rights, email support@virtualdrive.us. We respond within 30 days. Full text in the Privacy Policy.
What happens to my files if VirtualDrive shuts down?
- We would give every active user at least 30 days notice and direct download access to all their files during that window. Files are stored as ordinary objects in S3-compatible storage — there is no proprietary container format you'd need our software to read.
Apps, billing & support
What devices and platforms does VirtualDrive support?
- Web (any modern browser), native iOS, and native Android. Files sync automatically across all your devices. The iOS app supports Face ID and Touch ID, automatic camera backup, offline access, and Wi-Fi-only upload mode. Both mobile apps ship without third-party tracking SDKs.
What payment methods do you accept?
- Stripe (credit/debit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay), PayPal, and Apple In-App Purchase on iOS. Web subscriptions and Apple subscriptions are billed separately and at different rates (Apple's platform fee). Cancel anytime from your account settings or, for Apple subscriptions, from your iOS device's Subscriptions screen.
How do I cancel my subscription?
- Open Settings → Billing in your account and click Cancel. Your plan stays active until the end of the billing period — you don't lose access immediately. If you subscribed through Apple, manage cancellation from Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions on your iOS device.
Do you offer refunds?
- We offer prorated refunds within 7 days of the most recent charge for first-time subscribers. After that, you can cancel future renewals but the current period is non-refundable. Apple IAP refunds are handled by Apple directly. Email support@virtualdrive.us with your account email and we'll process eligible refunds within 3 business days.
Can I export all my files at once?
- Yes. Select any folder (or all files), choose Download, and the app builds a single .zip on the fly streamed directly from storage. There is no size cap on the export. For very large drives, export folder-by-folder to keep the ZIP under your browser's reasonable download size.
Is there an API for developers?
- A developer API is on our roadmap but is not yet public. If you need early access for an integration, contact support@virtualdrive.us and describe your use case.
