Cloud storage for developers

VirtualDrive is encrypted cloud storage developers use for build artifacts, design assets, datasets and project backups up to 5 GB per file, organized in nested folders and shared by link. Pro has 2 TB for $9.99 a month. A developer API is in development; until it launches, files go up through the web, iPhone and Android apps.

What developers can use VirtualDrive for today

Folder trees upload intact

Drag a project directory into the web app and its nested structure is recreated. Large files go up in parts, each retried on its own.

Share builds by link

Send a test build or a dataset with a password and an expiry date, or as view-only. Revoke links when they are no longer needed.

Previews in the browser

Open text files, PDFs, images and video without downloading, and download whole folders as a ZIP.

How to back up a project folder

  1. Leave out what you can rebuild

Skip node_modules, build caches and virtual environments; they are large and reproducible.

  2. Zip projects that contain scripts

Executables and scripts such as .exe, .sh and .dll are blocked from upload, so compress the project into a .zip first if it contains them.

  3. Upload into a dated folder

VirtualDrive keeps no version history, so upload each backup into a dated folder (for example 2026-10-06) instead of overwriting the last one.

  4. Share with an expiring link

Create a link with an expiry date for a teammate or client, and revoke it when you are done.

Questions developers ask

Is there an API or CLI?
Not yet. A developer platform with API keys, a file API and an MCP server for AI agents is in development, and you can join the waitlist on our developers page. Today, files are uploaded through the web, iPhone and Android apps.
Can I store source code?
Yes, as files. VirtualDrive is not a Git host and has no version history, so keep your repository on a Git service and use VirtualDrive for backups, artifacts and assets.
Which file types are blocked?
Executables and scripts, including .exe, .msi, .bat, .dll, .so, .dylib, .sh, .ps1, .jar and .php, cannot be uploaded. Archives such as .zip and .tar.gz are allowed.
Is it end-to-end encrypted?
No. Files are encrypted at rest with AES-256 by our storage providers and in transit with TLS. If you need zero-knowledge storage, encrypt archives yourself before uploading.
Are there bandwidth limits?
Each plan has a daily download allowance as a fair-use limit; previews and video playback do not count toward it. Storage is limited by your plan: 20 GB, 2 TB or 5 TB.
What is the largest file I can upload?
5 GB per file on Pro and Ultra. Split larger archives into parts before uploading.
